Isotretinoin, more commonly known as Accutane, is a powerful prescription medicine used in the treatment of acne. Four to five months of isotretinoin treatment often leads to clearing of acne, which may continue for one year or more after stopping treatment. Most other acne-controlling medicines are antibacterial agents, which are effective only when used daily.
